Does anyone know what happens to old retierd UPS trucks? I've never seen one for sale, on the road or in a junk yard. Do they just disappear?

A yard near me has a whole line of Fedex Trucks they are parting out, but cannot sell whole, and cannot sell anything that identifies them as Fedex. I'm guessing the same is true for UPS. And it is true that there is very little useable left on them, they are worn completely out before being removed from service. I considered buying the diesel rig out of one, but it was so badly used it wasn't worth rebuilding.

I'm a junk guy, and would be happy to get them to cut up for junk if I could find them close. My best year was 2003 when I scrapped out 100 tons, and I'm disabled, too.

Having worked for UPS years ago, if same is still true--they do not sell their vehicles anymore to anyone but salvage yards that must destroy them..Years ago they used to, but then got miffed when someone got a holdf of and drove one of theirs around without it first being painted grey...

That was one of the jobs I did--spray paint trucks to be sold

Really, other than tin work they are pretty tired when retired

Well, what I heard years ago is that they are cut up into pieces and scrapped. UPS keeps their vihicles longer than most companies anyway, so I guess when they are done with the trucks, the trucks are done!

This subject came up on another site and guys who claimed to have worked for UPS said only the semi tractors, which are standard models, are sold. The smaller vans and semi trailers are said to be built to UPS specs and are never sold. Said they run em untill the wheels fall off, then put on new wheels and run them again. When a UPS rig can no longer be made road worthy, they are stripped of all useable spare parts to keep the rest of the fleet running, with the remains cut up for scrap.
