74'F-350 4x4 460 power plant,two door rusted out cab.
Is it possible to put on a four door crew cab?
I know about body lift ect. Just wondering about frame length, and rise of frame near bed.

Tim, Yes you can. Basically .....
1st.. find a 73 to 79 Crew cab either 3/4 or 1t truck.
2nd.. strip all the frontend supension parts.
3rd.. Remove your frontend parts from your 74, start reinstalling on the crew cab truck. Least amount of modifyication.
There are some Crewcab,4x4, shortboxes outthere. And some regular ol crewcab,4x2,longboxes too, (my pick)
Now that doesn't mean you can't go the 'cut the frame route' though. And piece it together.
Yes this is a very abbriviated version, but it gets the point accross.
OBTW...You might upgrade the setup by useing front end supension parts off of a 88 up F350 1t 4x4. You might consider changeing out the rear supension too. So all things are equal, Anyway have fun.
Laater,
John A.

Ok John:
You seem to know your stuff about this so here goes.
I checked the Vin# it is a 75' f-350 4x4. Auto trans rebuilt 1 year ago.
It has a 460 runs well, 1 year old rubber, new back rotors, calibers, brakes, 70 Dana posi
Front rebuild drums, brakes.
Truck has a box on back that is being taken off.
So it would be eayser to find a late 70's crew cab, swap motors, rear axle, find an 88 or newer front end and install.
I paid $700 for the truck

Tim, Yes in theory, you have the 4x4 already! find a crewcab truck to swap your 4x4 parts too.
With that in mind you may want to up grade the springs, front axle and things with a later model
4x4. The reason for jumping to the mid 80s 1ton 4x4 is this is where Ford went back to the solid front axle and not the split modifies twin-I beam 4x4.
Do not forget to check spring widths to see if the are the same. If not , stay with the mid 70s springs and hangers. The later 80s front axle will have Disc brakes where the older is shoe brakes. Something to concider!
IMO... I would use a truck similar to the one in the photo ads as the base truck! Then remove the engine/trans/&all front end parts. Use the one you have as the donor truck! Remove the engine/trams/transfer parts.
Now remove the front axle, Now start removeing the spring hangers. There should be holes already in the frame. simply bolt on, and you go the other side.
Chech to see if the holes are allready there . before you buy the crewcab truck. I will bet the holes are allready there. If so you are into a bolt off, bolt on process
Tim, I know this text doesn't flow well. But I hope you get what I mean.
If you want, my email is uncovered and we can swap phone #s and I would be glad to visit with you.
Later,
John A.

good info. i have a 82F150 4x4 and a 82 F350 2x
as far as i can tell the 300 (6) the trans. and the transfer. will fit the F350 but i am hoping to find a F350 front end with eletric locking hubs and disc brakes.
will it be twin i-beam or straight axle that i am looking for???

Thanks,
John

Sure you can, it will be a lot of work but I met a guy who had a crewcab four wheel drive 51 Chev pickup, it was basicly two trucks put together, he did a beautiful job, I wished I could have gotten pictures when I had the chance.

Thanks for the encouragement. My neighbor builds hot rods with a crew of 5. He said it is possible. Just needed another opinion. I am just drooling over a 350 4x4 crew cab with a 460
I plan on takeing Pics of the project as I go along. First step is finding a new cab not too rusted out, here in the northeast. The last Junk yard I went to, the guy said to look in Utah.LOL
