Here is a long nose 9500 GMC near me.Hasnt been used since 1991 and may be too far gone to save.Sure would love to hear that sweet 318 Detroit roar back to life. She used to haul sand and gravel with an end dump trailer.

This 8-71 works every day almost hauling old CATs to the jobsite. You picture looks like Grandpa's old 6-71 machine. This is newer. What a buzzing rumble! I love it. Geared low to work, not just a highway machine.

Yes I have one I use weekly V-8 twin trannys and the Hood is so heavy no man can open it standing flat footed on the street!

Grandpa's got a big GMC with the 8-71 Detroit. Maybe just a bit newer that this one. It is not turboed, just the GMC blower that makes them run. A turbo quiets them down and requires less of a muffler. This one has turbo mufflers. You can hear it climb the grade hauling his CAT D7 or big excavator machine over two miles away. So sweet, so smooth, yet what a ferocious growl! GMC Brigadier? Early eighties maybe?

1206,used to be a lot of the 9500's around here, both the long and short nose, most were 10 wheeler dumps. I drove 2 different 9500's the first one had the 238 in it, now that was a sweet sound and the other one had the 318 in it. Just nothing compares to the sound of the two stroke Detroits. Sorta put my eye on that white cabover in the background, looks like a Crackerbox or maybe an Astro, you don't see either of them much anymore. I have seen in your posts that you live 100 miles south of KC, I live 100 miles south of St. Louis, just outside of Jackson. Well better get to bed got to go truckin' tonight. Tom

I agree with you that nothing compares to a jimmy for sound, especially one with a jake. I have driven 6-71 8-71 and 12-71. I dont mind the sound of an naturally aspirated cummins. But my favorite is the jimmy though even with all the oil leaks. I have heard people refer to them as hondas, and I feel kind of insulted when they say that.

Hello,
If the fiberglass hood is decent and the frame rails aren't too rusty I would definitely restore it. GM used this same cab up to 1989 and good ones can still be found. just be sure to get one with the correct floor pan in it(unless you don't mind cutting and welding) By the way ever see one of these with a 12V71 in it? I was told they made a few of them. Good luck....Mike

I'm a Ford fan,but that sure is a good looking Jimmy.I'd like to have it sitting in my barn.Is it for sale? You ought to grab it.You don't see them around any more.Where is it located? In the salt belt?If the body is solid, that's half the battle.Just about anything is rebuildable, mechanically.I'd like to hear it run too. With straight pipes.Good luck.

The owner said anything there is for sale but so far no prices yet.Theres about 8-10 old road tractors there.Several crackerbox GMC's,Diamond T,KW's,etc.

Wonder how hard it would be to get a 318 running thats set for 13 years?Supposed to be only 10,000 miles on a 360 horse rebuild with big injectors, etc. It needs a frame rail?

I bought a 7500 at an auction last spring because it was cheap and i figured good parts if nothing else hasnt been tagged since 91 so probably hasnt been run brought it home cleaned and freed injectors made sure fuel rack moved freely (VERY IMPORTANT) and fired it up it runs good, will run better on fresh fuel im sure. pull the valve covers and make sure the injector racks move freely as a detroit rests at full fuel and if it stuck there and you start it it will runaway (but not as fast as you will) good luck mike

Hello,
After 13 years of sitting its at least gonna need new injectors, and the tanks cleaned out, and maybe a new fuel pump. I'd take a socket and a big breaker bar and see if the motor will turn over before making any offers. The frame rail is another story. Is it broke or rusted?
Find a shop that does frame work on big trucks and they can prob. give you some idea of how much for a rail and having it drilled to match the old one. Be sure and ask about the cond. of the tranny and rear ends too. Good luck...Mike
