Not on this board much as I have nothing in common. My stuff is tractors...............buttttttttt:

Got Ford, Dodge and GM. Haven't had GM for a long time.

Have a '97 Tahoe. Real frustration with brakes. New pads and rear shoes and master cylinder.

When you push on the brake pedal with the engine off, the pedal will pump up to about 2" depression from relaxed to max pressure. Seems like this is a good firm place for the pedal to be.

Hold your foot on the brake pedal with slight pressure and start the engine. As the vacuum of the engine increases the pedal drops toward the floorboard (foot pressure still applied).....book says that that tells you that the vac booster is workin.....great, but it doesn't say how great it's workin....no dimensions.

Have backed up and reset the rear brake ratchets too many times to count thinkin that the rear slop was causing the pedal slop.....not so.

Problem. When you want to stop, pedal goes to about 2" off floor B4 you get full brakes. On Dodge and Ford you get full brakes about 2" from relaxed pedal.

Please help me B4 I do sumpin stupid like buyin a new Ford or Dodge just so my brakes are tight.

Have you bled the brake system recently? sounds to me like there may be some air in the system.

Make sure the parking brake cable is not adjusted too tight. If the parking brake is too tight the self adjusters on the rear brakes will not work. On my 92 chev,the park break must not be adjusted above 1/2 travel or about 4 inches.
