My first truck was a 1952 Chevy 3/4 ton, it was rusty, but it was 20 years old. Then I moved up to a 1952 Chevy 1 ton, a little low on power, and had hard to find 18 inch tires. Then I bought a Dodge 1 ton Omaha Standard cattle and grain box, something like a 1966 It was 10 years old and had about the same rust as the Chevy. Had some problem with duals coming loose, and very light front end with less than a load was applied. some parts were hard to find. Drove a 1984 Ford snow plowing special for a small engine shop I worked for. It liked gas, it didn't have any mechanical problems, but then, it was new. I mostly did service callse with it, some to Chicago from Kalamazoo MI, it rode good. I did some snow plowing, too, and couldn't find a pile of snow it couldn't push. They bought a Dodge snow plowing special, and right away the master cylinder broke, there were a couple other things breaking, but I can't remember what Everyone in the shop prefered the Ford over the Dodge. They were both 3/4 ton. I had a Dodge van with front wheel drive, the differential and transmission kept disintegrating, and when I got it it was 3 years old. Now, I have a 1975 GMC one ton, it does like parts, but then, it's 29 years old. It looks like ****, and has a service body that looks as bad, but I'be put 50,000 miles of my own on it since 2001, and I'm building a compressor into it, and a oxy/propane torch, I added an auxiliary battery and an external jumper plug, and I just put a big vise on the back that doesn't make it any prettier, of course I don't make any prettier either. I carry my wheelchair in the back, and pull a 1999 trailer that once looked new, but looks as bad as the truck now. I guess If I had to pick, I would choose the GM products first, then Ford.

My opinion, Chevrolet stopped making Trucks after 1972. All are as good as their warranty nowadays.

All in all, I think the Fords have a slight edge but, for a long time, they didn't make anything like a Suburban so my last 3 trucks have been Suburbans. That said, I really did like my '63 Power Wagon

Oh Man! Ford? My Dad just had a 1985 F-250 Diesel and it fell apart faster then you can say movie theater! I think dodge and chevy are good. Older Chevys are very solid which is why my dad has one now. For the winter though, to plow. (Classic Trucks Forum: Fisher Plow)
