I just purchased an old I.H. truck and am new to this. I don't mean to sound stupid, but why are they referred to as Binder's. I've searched the sites and can't find anything. Thanks, Rick

You'll even find some collectors that refer to IHC produced M1 Garand Rifles as "Binder Models".

The name binder originated with IHC, when Cyrus McCormick developed the first successful grain binder. The big deal about that was, prior to that, harvesting grain meant using a two handed scythe. The binder/grain harvestor, cut the grain, rolled it into a long bundle, and tied it with twine, Binder twine. A huge development in agriculture, which is where McCormick and later IHC got its start. I've always known them as corn binders. Same idea, different use.
