I'm considering buying a 1954 International Metro Van for my contracting business. Its definitely an eye-catcher. Does anyone have any experience with these? I'm trying to find out what to ask and look for while making the decision. Any pitfalls to be aware of? Will it be impossible to restore and maintain? What resources I can turn to?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. I'm just starting out.

I own abakery in cranston RI and do remember the
Metro International Trucks very durable trucks Many were of steel and bodies would rot out after
a couple years the style you want rounded body lasted until 1964 new type lasted until the mid 1970s good for nostalgia but you are better off for work with a Grumman Olsen Aluminum body van

I tried to post a reply earlier but it disappeared so I'll try again. The International Metro of that era was the preimum and most popular step van produced. They were built in 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 1 ton and 1 1/4 ton. I think the model numbers at that time were; 100 1/2t, 110 HD1/2t, 120 3/4t, 130 1t, and 150 1 1/4t. These are from memory and may have errors. The drive train is basicly the same as other International light trucks of the same tonage at that time. Parts are generally available. An exception is Metro body parts would probably be very hard to find. They were a very durable truck. There are a couple of good IHC truck sites on the internet. One is "oldihctrucks.com" I think this address is correct.

Thanks for the help. I will check out that site and I'm glad to hear that they are pretty solid trucks.
