I live in the great state of New York.I'm thinking of registering my 40 foot lowboy trailer in Maine.I contacted a broker in Maine. The procedure sounds pretty simple except for the inspection.Any body from New York done this??Can I get the trailer inspected in NY even though I have a Maine registration??I see a lot of semi's on the road with Maine plates on the trailer. It's pretty obvious these trailers don't go back to Maine once a year for an inspection sticker. So,whats the deal here?? Thanks for any info.

In CT, the Police Officers have what they call a mis match, that is A CT license, and out of state plates, (they check by computer in the squad car), and they stop and send you to the MVD for inspection, and to explain why you live here and have an out of state registration. Also heard the hangup is the inspection, if necessary that has to be done in Maine, and won't, so no inspection sticker but Maine plates on the vehicle. Try it if you believe in it, good luck with it.

I don't live in NY, but a bit south of you . However, I have had my trailer registered in ME for almost5 years now and no problems. This past Sunday at an antique truck club picnic, the subject of ME registrations came up. We decided that IF every ME registered trailer came back to ME, there wouldn't be enough room in the state to park them all!
