when installing new camshaft bearings in a 2.8 1992
s10, the rearmost bearing is loose in the journel, so
much that it can be removed with your fingers. What's
going on here? Could I have mixed up the bearings,
and what can I do to fix it, or is it ok to install it with this
loose fit? thanks

A general rule for cam bearings is a press fit & must be installed with a cam brg. installer tool. Don't put it in loose. You'll be sorry. Must have gotten the wrong one in a set or ??? Shops have manuals with diamentions & specs for all engines. Check one.

If you run it with it loose, you'll be into the engine again in just a few miles. The bearing will burn out because the oil hole into the block won't be in alignment. recheck the bearings, not sure on that engine, but many of them have one or two that are in graduated sizes.
